How to add no follow links to Squarespace*
*And when you should
Google has specific guidelines for how you should treat links from your website to others based on the type of link it is. In a nutshell, any link you are compensated for should be a href nofollow link. This could include:
collaborations with other site owners or brands
when a brand is paying you (including referral fees or discounts) to write about or link to their product or service
How to add no follow links to Squarespace
It’s not immediately obvious how to add no follow links to Squarespace, and that’s because they’ve made it slightly tricky to do so. Essentially when you want to create a nofollow link, you have to put it in a markdown box. So if the link sits within a paragraph of content, the entire paragraph will have to be in the markdown box. A bit of a pain, but here’s how you do it:
STEP 1. ADD A MARKDOWN BOX
Go to the page or blog post and click the insertion point where you want the link to go. Select Markdown from the popup menu.
STEP 2. ADD YOUR CONTENT AND LINK
Add your copy exactly as you want it to appear, using the code below for your link:
This is how you <a href="https://www.threesixtyinteractive.com" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">add a nofollow link</a> in Squarespace.
All you have to do is customise the URL and the link text. And don’t forget, you can style the text using the WYSIWIG options in the Markdown box.
STEP 3: CLICK APPLY
And you’re done. Test everything and make sure it looks and works as expected.
