Using Squarespace email campaigns

I’ve had a few clients ask about email marketing lately, so I’m writing this post to give you a quick run-down on Squarespace Email Campaigns and how you can use this tool to do your email marketing.

Why I recommend using Squarespace Email Campaigns

First up, why I recommend Squarespace campaigns. A few reasons…

If you already use Squarespace (which I presume you do if you’re reading this) - then using Squarespace campaigns will allow you to continue to keep everything web-related in one place. It’s also very easy to get the hang of Squarespace campaigns if you’re already familiar with Squarespace as a web design tool. You login to the same dashboard - you’ll find campaigns under the Marketing link. You can seamlessly add the colours, logos and fonts from your website to your email templates, making sure your branding is consistent and recognisable, and creating a familiar experience for your subscribers. And setting up your lists, designing newsletters and scheduling are all very easy to do. There are various templates to choose from and the interface has drag and drop functionality which makes it simple to use, even with very little design or technical expertise. Finally - you can make use of the analytics to get insight into how well your campaigns are doing. This will help you refine your strategy and content and enhance your results over time. It doesn’t have as much functionality as some of the other tools out there, but for a lot of people, this shouldn’t matter (and in fact, it’s a major pro for people who just want a user-friendly tool they can quickly get up and running with).

Launching an email campaign using Squarespace

Grow Your Email List

  • Add email capture forms on your Squarespace website to gather email addresses from visitors. Place form blocks or pop ups strategically on high traffic pages to increase sign ups.

  • Provide lead magnets (discounts, free resources, exclusive content) to encourage visitors to subscribe to your email list. Clearly communicate the benefits they will get by joining.

DESign your Campaigns

  • Select a template from Squarespace’s library that suits your brand and campaign objectives.

  • Customise the template using Squarespace’s drag and drop editor to match your website’s style, colours and fonts. Include your logo!

Follow email marketing best practises

  • Craft engaging content by writing copy and incorporating high quality images, videos and other multimedia elements to capture your audience’s attention. Ensure that the content is relevant, informative and valuable for your subscribers.

  • Make sure to include a compelling call to action in every email to guide recipients towards taking actions like visiting your website, making a purchase, or downloading a resource.

  • When scheduling your campaigns, consider the timing based on your audiences behaviour and preferences. Test different send days and times to find the best time for your audience and maximise your engagement.

  • Leverage automation features like Squarespaces email sequences to trigger actions such as a series for new subscribers or follow up emails after a purchase.

  • Keep track of your email campaign performance by using Squarespaces analytics tools. Monitor metrics, like rates click through rates, conversion rates and unsubscribe rates to assess the effectiveness of your campaigns.

Enhancing Your Squarespace Email Marketing

  • Optimise for mobile. As with your website, it's really important to ensure your email campaigns are mobile friendly since most people are likely to read your emails on their phones. Use templates that adapt well to smaller screen sizes and keep your content concise and easy to read on a small screen.

  • Test variations. Experiment with different components of your emails (subject lines, content, calls to action) to figure out what resonates best with your audience. By testing you will be able to fine tune for better results over time,

  • Following regulations. Make sure you follow email marketing laws like GDPR and CAN SPAM by providing options to unsubscribe and respecting user privacy. Don’t ever buy email lists, and don’t ever email anyone who hasn’t given you their consent to do so.

  • Be consistent with your sending pattern. Maintaining a consistent email schedule will help keep your audience interested and looking forward to your messages. Whether you choose weekly, bi-monthly or monthly sends doesn’t really matter - consistency is the key.

  • Creating compelling subject lines. We all get a ton of emails every day. Try to make yours stand out. Craft subject lines that pique the interest of recipients and make them want to open your emails. Try using language that prompts action and throw in the occasional emoji to jazz things up.

So - what are you waiting for? Start email marketing now with Squarespace email campaigns! It’s a great way to deepen your connection with your audience, stay front of mind when they need your support, and drive more traffic to your website more consistently.
